Kate Hughes

The Honorable Sir Edmund Barton Highway

This book has been completed thanks to the kind assistance of my father Denis Hughes of MyChoice laser engraving. I have had this book in the works for too long now, it has finally been pulled together with stitching and is complete. The images are relief prints from laser engraved lino blocks with Australian red ochre pigment coating the inside of each folded page. The pages are bound up with engraved kangaroo leather recalling a scorched aerial view of the landscape contained within.

Working solidly on uni work currently but that hasn’t stopped plans for when I have time again for my art. Lino plates engraved and ready to print and kangaroo leather for editioned book covers. Thinking of geographical representations of post federation history.

I have two exhibitions scheduled for the end of this year and early next year. An installation of photographs and flip books based on my video work at Mailbox 141 and my video works will be on exhibition in Brunswick Street Gallery’s projection space. More details closer to the dates.
